Episode 4: Haridwar, Uttarkhand
Located on the Ganges River, Haridwar is one of the seven holiest cities for Hindus. Unlike its popular counterpart, Varanasi, Haridwar generally remains off the international tourist circuit and is therefore less commercialized. View the locals bathing in the river, witness the cremation ceremonies at Chandi Ghat, discover the many temples, and experience the sacred Aarti ceremony at sunset.
Episode 3: Deogarh Mahal and Talabgaon Castle, Rajasthan
Although Rajasthan is one of the most popular tourist regions in India, few venture away from the big cities. Located in the Rajsamand district only two hours from Udaipur, Deogarh Mahal is a historic Mewar palace that is still partially occupied by the royal family. Only two hours from Jaipur is the majestic Talabgaon Castle, a 200-year-old, beautifully restored fort nestled in the palm of rustic nature and nearby Ranthambore National Park.
Episode 1: Nashik, Maharashtra
India is experiencing a boom in the wine industry. In addition to producing internationally recognized and award winning wines, many vineyards now feature modern tasting rooms and luxury accommodations. Located less than three hours from Mumbai is Nashik, India’s wine country. Several acclaimed vineyards will be visited, including Sula Vineyards, one of the most renowned wineries in India.
Episode 2: Kumbakonam and Chettinad, Tamil Nadu
Kumbakonam is a pilgrimage site and is noted for its many temples. There are 18 temples in the town center with the oldest being the Nagesvara Swami Temple, a Saivite temple begun in 886 AD. Only four hours away are the 74 villages of Chettinad, stretched over mostly arid land with a splash of green. From a history of gem trading, today it has a mix of old stately mansions, English-styled bungalows, and eclectic temples.
Episode 5: Coorg, Karnataka
Many travelers are familiar with India’s tea culture, a tradition cultivated from the British. However, the coffee plantation trails in Karnataka are much less discovered. We will visit several plantations in the western ghats, learn about the harvest, and interact with the laborers.
